White Horse Lake

August 2008

Family Campout at White Horse Lake

Our first campout of the year is always a family campout. This year we went up to White Horse Lake near Williams. Except for the rain and the thunder and the rain and the lightning and the rain and the hail and the rain, it was a GORGEOUS weekend!!!
Our campsite is next to White Horse Lake, a beautiful lake in the pine trees. And it is 30 degrees cooler here than back home!
Trying out some new ways to set up their tent..
Our first activity is a lashing activity. The Scout lash together a ladder and climb to the top and then make a bridge to walk across.

I made it! I guess they've been practicing their knots!
Michael and Blake test it out next
After our lashing activity, the Scouts build a shelter
Hey, I think I'll spend the night here --- as long as it doesn't rain!
After all that hard work, it's time for lunch!

Okay, who wants to go on a hike after lunch?
Kevin and Blake lead us on a hike using their compass and map skills. If we fall into the canyon, we'll know they made a mistake.
We love hiking!
"Those boys need to get out more!"
We found a sink hole!
James loves this sink hole!
And we get to our destination - Sycamore Falls. We call it Sycamore Fell because it looks like all the water already fell to the bottom, but it is a beautiful spot!
Just two more steps and it will be Bailey Falls.
Beam me up, Scottie

Hey Rod!
I hope none of you are throwing any ROCKS into the canyon!

Who, us, throwing rocks? No way!
See, we told you it was okay!!
I hope everyone brought a raincoat
Neither rain nor snow, nor sleet nor dark of night shall stop our intrepid chef, Mr. Frantz, from cooking us a wonderful dinner!
Grilled chicken, garlic bread, corn on the cob, mashed potatoes, and salad... YUM!
The sun comes out for a short hello and gives us a special treat - a beautiful double rainbow
It's Inspector Clouseau!
Mr. Moorehead makes a pineapple upside down cake and an apple cobbler for dessert
We wake up Sunday morning to a beautiful day, and no rain!
This morning the Scouts work on some orienteering skills on a course Travis set up.

And they also practice some extermination orienteering skills

Thank you to our trip leaders, Nona McInerney and Mark Moorehead, for a great time and great activities, and thanks to Mr. Frantz for "cooking in the rain" and to everyone else who helped make this such a great outing!!!
