Sonoran Desert Cleanup Project

Sonoran Desert Cleanup Project

As a service project for the BLM, we cleaned up a section of desert in a closed area of the Sonoran National Monument near Mobile.
Our workers are: Thomas, Mike, Coby, Karl, Connor, Chad, Jude, Kevin, Bob, Ryan.

We are working in the area shown on this map and the desert has been destroyed by off-road vehicles and people using it as a dumping area

trash

While Coby munches on leftover pizza, the rest of the Scouts unload tools and garbage bags..

Kevin and Connor start shoveling and raking up trash - the ground is covered with broken glass, shell casings, and lots of JUNK
Kevin and Jude look for trash from the top of this rock

Everyone picks an area to work on

Time for a break already??

No one wants to sit on these!

Back to work
Bob and Mike fill another bag with trash - By the end of the day, we had picked up about 40 tires, 55 bags of trash and around 6,000 shell casings

Debi thinks she should get the prize for the best piece of trash of the day -
Filling up the trailer with more trash and tires

And the final load!

Here we are with all our trash!

Thank you to Bob Meiers for organizing this service project!
