10-Mile Day Hike at South Mountain

February 2008

Our hike today is from the beginning of Pima Road over to Telegraph Pass on the National Trail and Telegraph Pass Trail and it is a perfect day for a nice 10-mile hike... and did I mention it is all downhill? Our hikers are Debi, Dave, Gary, Tyler, and James.
We study the map to plan our route. It looks pretty flat on this map, don't you think?

Everyone adds a rock to the biggest rock cairn in the world, or at least the biggest rock cairn in South Mountain!

James hiding out in Hidden Valley
Only 8 more miles to go, Tyler!

Are we starting the downhill part yet??
James leads us in search of a geocache
It's around here somewhere!
Mr. Weber and James study the GPS for clues

where would you be if you were a geocache?

Right here!
Mr. Weber fills out the log
and we hit the trail again

James waits for us while we climb up more downhill parts of the hike.
Tyler finds the best seat in the house while we watch the mountain bikers for a while
And then we are off again, in search of that downhill section, it must start sometime soon!
Snack break
James is happy because he can see houses and a parking lot!
Gary and Tyler come down the last set of switchbacks

The final stretch!
We finished! And Mrs. Hutchins is here to take us back to our cars at the start - unless anybody wants to walk back??
Special thanks to Mrs. Hutchins for the taxi service!
