Superstition Backpack Trip

Backpack trip to Reed's Water/Dripping Spring in the Superstitions

Yes, this is our whole group! Steve, Alex, Michael, Debi, Richard, and Augie are the only ones lucky enough to backpack to this beautiful area of the Superstitions.
Our first break - Michael is smiling because this hike really is pretty flat :)
Augie thinks this is a good place to set up camp, even if it is in the middle of a wash and there is a herd of cattle nearby.
No wonder Richard needs a break - two backpacks and enough stuff to live out here forever!
At Reed's Water we found some old windmills, a Top Ramen Geocache, and one of the biggest saguaros we have ever seen!
After we set up camp and have lunch, we hike about a mile to Dripping Spring to get water and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
Back at camp, Alex gets a nice fire going!

Hey, Mr. Vullo, is that a genuine Filson vest you are wearing??
Let's see what is for dinner...looks like baked mostaccioli with french bread and Italian salad!
And for dessert, Chef Richard has done it again with a homemade raspberry and blueberry pie!
We all love pie!!
Richard loves pie so much he doesn't notice that his foot is on fire.
Sunday morning we pack up to hike out.
On the way back the boys make sure the ramen is still safe.

We check out the windmills to see how they work

Then we hit the trail again, I think we just climbed up the flat part.
Out here in the Superstitions, you never know who you are going to come across on the trail.
This should keep those cows on the right side of the fence.

Miner's Needle

Snack time!
I wish I had some of my dad's goat crackers!
Debi's (brand new!) Thermarest made a friend along the trail.

OUCH!
And then on to Serrano's Mexican restaurant in Chandler for some delicious after-hike food... but not as good as that blueberry pie!
