Reavis Ranch Backpack Trip

March 2003

Mike, Bill, Eran, Debi, Luke, Ian, Forrest, Carlos, Cody and Steve

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale, a tale of a fateful trip,
That started on a sunny day in the Superstition Mountains --

Wake up, Gilligan!!

We stopped to have a snack and honor Elisha's memory at his grave site before starting the climb up to the ranch. (This part of the hike is not flat!)

Lunch break at the top! This is Ian's first backpack trip ever - it's a good thing the rest of the hike is flat.

We call this tree "Big John"

Time to set up camp --
It's always good to have some older Scouts around to help our new Scouts learn the proper ways to put up a tent.

Friday night gourmet dinner - marinated pork loin roast, mashed potatoes and veggies.

Saturday morning --- "The weather started getting rough..."

We started on our day hike to Circlestone Ruin but we made it less than a half mile before it started raining so hard we couldn't see where we were going and headed back to camp to spend the afternoon under tarps and tents.

Luke spent the weekend digging a foxhole - maybe he wanted to see if he could get some good Chinese food to go with his 3 boxes of Thin Mints he brought for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
It couldn't get any worse, could it??

After a night of rain and gusting winds, we woke up Sunday morning to snow!

At least it's not raining any more...

Not snow nor hail nor sleet nor wind can stop our fearless crew -

So that was the tale of our backpackers, on a hike to Reavis Ranch. They made it home, cold and wet, and will they ever go back??

Ask Ian!!
