Picacho Peak Campout

January 2003

The Picacho Peak Ranger Squadron, always ready to give you advice, a helping hand, or a ticket.

After a hearty pancake and sausage breakfast cooked for all by Troop 132, the Scouts were divided into groups for the Worst Case Scenario competition. Seven stations were set up and seven groups were given maps to each of the stations - the winning team would be the first group to complete all seven activities.... Let the Games Begin!!!

COOKING
Each team had to light a backpacking stove and cook a marshmallow for each member of the team -- and eat it. Is that poker you're playing, Matt??

BOWLINE
Each team had to tie a bowline around the waist of one member of the group and then help him get to the top of the cliff. Each group had a little higher cliff to climb, by the last team Cody had them going to the top of Picacho Peak.

CHOLLA
Each team had to remove cholla cactus from a dummy using items they found in the backpack. (Hint -- it's the comb, dummy!)

Greg, you dummy, is that a cholla cactus in your leg???

SHELTER
Each team had to build a shelter using items in their backpack and the natural surroundings..and no, Neal's pillow is not the natural surroundings.

FIRST AID
Each team had to find the first aid station.. Wait, that wasn't the challenge! They had to fix a broken arm using items in their backpack or things they found.

TENT
Each team had to set up a backpacking tent, have it checked by Master Sergeants Mikac and Carr, and then break it down and pack it.

FIRE
Each team had to build a fire and then burn through a string tied above the fire. Unfortunately the photographer couldn't find this station...

James and Brian cooked a delicious lunch of hamburgers and hot dogs for all! Thanks, guys!!!

Time to relax! Is Neal that popular or could he be paying Scouts with candy to be his friend and swing his hammock??

Hey, we're back from our hike, we didn't miss anything fun like a trip to DAIRY QUEEN, did we???

Dinner Time! The adult leaders cooked steak dinners for all of the Life Scouts who worked so hard in their booths all day...Thank you Life Scouts!!

Stuffed baked potatoes in the dutch oven and pineapple upside down cake!

Time to pack up and head to Peppersauce Cave.
