Lake Powell
March 2001

After morning rush hour 697's group of 11 boys and 5 adults headed north to Lake Powell. We stopped to play in the snow...I mean eat lunch outside of Flagstaff. The campsite on the shore by Lone Rock was beautiful - including Ed Mikac's 5th wheel. |
| Friday morning after we were joined by Mr. Strauss, Mr. Sanford, and Mr. Smith and Forrest the group explored the wonders of Lower Antelope Canyon. |
| Everyone took pictures for the photography merit badge and we emerged from the canyon to a brewing sandstorm that lasted from 3:00 pm to 5:00 am on Saturday morning. |
| Before dinner we went to the dam tour and saw the dam slide show at the dam visitor center. The sand was still blowing so everyone went to the bowling alley and then back to camp. The 5th wheel saved us as Ms. Aylward and Ms. Suber cooked dinner for the entire group. Everyone was in their tents by 8:00 pm mostly to hold the tents down. The sand was everywhere! |
| Saturday morning was cold and clear and best of all NO SAND! We went out on the boats and found a great place to plant the Geocache - 697 Mr. Happy's Cache. Adam and Cody went fishing with Mr. Sanford. |
| After a day on the water, everyone ate heartily and enjoyed Mr. Mikac's apple cobbler. The fire pit was put to good use and the stories went on well into the night. Sunday morning the troop had a service on the beach about respecting each other. Everyone loaded into the cars for the ride back to the Valley. We all look forward to a return trip. |
