Peppersauce Cave Campout

December 2006

Our second caving trip this year! We returned to Peppersauce Cave to explore and help clean up the garbage left by others. We head down on Saturday to set up camp at Peppersauce Campground and then head over to explore the cave all afternoon before returning to a gourmet dinner and campfire back at camp.
Of course our first priority is FOOD! What's for lunch, guys?

After lunch, it's time to get ready to go caving - Mr. Baggs, Mr. Frantz, and Mr. Kiefer hand out helmets and make sure everyone is properly equipped for a safe caving trip.

Fell Off Road and Died.
We climb up to the entrance of the cave..

...and we have to climb in this little hole??
Blaze leads us all into the cave - come on, everyone, last one in is a rotten egg!

I'm a rotten egg???
We all meet in the first room and talk about cave safety and see what it looks like with our flashlights off (dark!) and then we are off to explore the cave.
You have to be careful though, because you never know when you may run into some of the cave zombies that live here.
The cave is full of crawl spaces and pathways to explore. We find a lot of water in the cave on this trip, more than we've ever seen before.

Can I bring this home for my rock collection?
Connor can fit in some of the smallest spaces!

Blaze gets struck by a rare bolt of cave lightning.

I'm a Wildman Caveman!

We climb down the ladder to explore one of the lakes in the cave.

Nico is having too much fun here!
Mr. Kiefer finds time for a nap.

Another cave zombie!

Some fearless scouts and dads climb down to explore and find the rabbit hole and explore some very narrow crawl spaces! I'll just stay up here and take pictures :)

Okay, it's time to go outside and see who wins the prize for dirtiest scout! My money is on Connor and Nico!

Who's ready for a shower?
We all enjoy dinner, especially the parents, thanks to Chef McCormick and his feast of grilled scallops and shrimp, asparagus, and mashed potatoes, topped off with fruit cobbler!

And we are entertained later next to the fire by the After-Dinner Boy Scout Comedy Theatre.
Wake up, Mr. McCormick, you don't want to miss the next skit!!
Another great trip! Thanks to our trip captains and to the Phoenix Grotto for introducing us all to caving! And thank you to Ryan for taking lots of great pictures!
