PaintBall Campout
December 2000
Paintball Fun Mission: Paintball 2000
by John Gaylord, USMC
The following is a first-hand battle account found scratched into the dirt by Corporal Recon Drewser Gaylord after dying from his wounds suffered in the successful battle for Area 52 during the early phases of PaintBall War 2000.
It actually started out as a normal mission in the Corps. We had a morning briefing and the squad's mission was a simple recon with the objective of bringing back some intelligence for the main force being led by General McGinn. I led one fire team out on the left flank, and Corporal Moreash led a like-size group around the right flank.
Corporal Alvarado was in charge of the home base perimeter defense and was supported by the local brig rats, cooks and supply clerks. Everything got hot quick as we stumbled on to an Old Guy patrol led by some old, long-haired geezer known in the intelligence community as "Crazy-legs" Art Romero. I received some superficial wounds from paint-splattered bushes, and lost two of my patrol, before we were able to lay down enough of a steady stream of paint ball pellets to send Crazy-legs and the rest of his geriatric patrol back to the rest home in the sky. I sent my remaining able-bodied man back to the base with the wounded and to report on the enemy situation. It was time to go on the offensive. Crazy-legs' demise had opened up the enemy's back door.
I quickly continued the left flanking action we had initially begun and as the enemy's outpost came into sight I saw Corporal Carlos Romero approaching from the right flank of the enemy. He had been sighted by the enemy and I could tell they were laying an ambush for him. I did what I had to do. The only thing I could do. I attacked and diverted the enemy's attention away from Corporal Romero. I took five direct hits after dropping at least four of the enemy with head shots from my sniper-scoped paintball gun. Corporal Romero was alerted and instinctively did what he had been trained to do. Single-handedly he embarked on a frontal assault, capturing the enemy's flag and winning the battle for the good guys. |
More Paintball Coverage
by Dillon Moreash
Thirty-one cadets reported for duty at Southwest Paintball on December 9. Objective: destroy all enemies. My equipment: Three hundred paintballs, and one USMC Ka-Bar knife...in case I run out of paintballs. The mission was successful, all enemy forces surrendered. Every shot I took was a sacrifice to protect my new recruits, sacrificing myself in the name of Honor. Returning to camp that evening, we prepared dinner and relaxed around the campfire, trading war stories with the General (ME). The rations were exceptional, and hopefully Privates Glass and Moreash never know that the "chuck steak" they ate was really a stray dog Corporal Gaylord brought down with his M-16 on the way to camp.
