Lockett Meadow Family Campout

September 2004

Our campsite at Lockett Meadow in the San Francisco Peaks just outside of Flagstaff -
so beautiful and peaceful...
oh, wait, the Scouts aren't here yet!

Doreen whips up some vegetable omelets for breakfast and then we prepare for the day's activities.
This is Lyle's first campout with our troop - he gets some help learning how to set up a tent from Jeffrey.
Ian helps his parents set up the Casper family tent.
Doreen and Debi get a flag ready for our flag retirement ceremony in the evening and Bob is already thinking about food. Is it lunch time yet?

After the lunch the Scouts prepare for a hike into the Inner Basin and to work on the Nature merit badge.
Doreen and Mark help the Scouts learn to identify plants along the trail. Can you really identify poison ivy by the taste, Spencer?

How much longer? I thought you said this trail was flat!
Well, maybe it goes uphill a little bit.
But it's all downhill coming back!

Back at camp!
Spencer teaches Lyle a traditional Boy Scout favorite activity - fire building! Ian supervises from his camp chair.

Mark, John, and Greg start working on dinner

Bob: "Has anyone seen my recipe for barbecued cracker jacks?"
Deb: "I think I'll go eat dinner with Mark, John and Greg."

Lyle: "Me too!"
