Grand Canyon Family Campout

August 2007

Our first outing of the year is our family campout and this year we went to visit one of the natural wonders of the world. No, not Taco Bell, the Grand Canyon!
We have plenty of water and this sign doesn't say anything about the trail not being flat, so we are ready for our hike down to the 3-mile rest house.

I love it when Boy Scouts come here! I hope they drop a lot of trail mix for me to snack on..

The views are awesome and we get a peek at the trail we will be hiking on.

...and dessert

A water break in the shade

Are we there yet?
The end is near.. the end of the downhill part, that is.
We manage to all fit in the 10 feet of shade here to rest up for the hike back.

Who's ready to hike back to the top?
You mean we have to hike back up there!!??!
We'll just wait here and catch the next mule train to the top.

Time for a break!
I'm just waiting for the old people to catch their breath.
Don't sit still on the trail too long, guys, those condors look hungry!
You can't have too many breaks on a hike like this.
We made it!!

And it's not dark yet!
Mr. Weber helps the Scouts get dinner going.
Travis and his dad help the fire burn faster by watching it.
Ian cooks burgers for everyone.

And the cobblers cook while we eat dinner
Travis has a Scoutmaster conference with Mr. Pendleton

We want to go hiking again!

Mr. Hutchins and Mr. Weber take the Scouts hiking again, and they promise that today's hike really will be flat!

It was a great outing, thanks to Mr. Weber for all your work and planning!
