Camp Cherry Valley, Catalina Island

July 2007

Do we all look like we would rather be in bed? That's because it's 3:00 in the morning and time to drive to California to begin our week on Catalina Island at Camp Cherry Valley... via Starbucks to help the drivers stay awake!!
We arrive in Long Beach and take a ferry over to Catalina Island.

The Scouts retire to the staterooms for some hands of poker

While the leaders relax on deck
are we there yet?
We're glad to be off that boat!!

Our home for the next week

Inspection time!

And then some relaxation time

When we say relax, Mr. Keifer listens!

Swim check time! Lenny can't wait to jump in that cold water!
The swim checks are a little more challenging here than at Camp Geronimo!
For our service project, we clean up brush to prevent a fire hazard

Maybe we can sneak into town while they finish up this service project!
And now it's cobbler time!
The next day we hike up to the top of the island

Here's our troop photographer getting some great scenery shots!

Then we head over to the beach for swimming and snorkeling

The target practice here is also more challenging than at Camp Geronimo!

I love donuts!
Blaze distributes the donut delivery.. one for you, two for me, one for you, three for me..
We check on Troop 697's Geocache which we placed several years ago

We prepare for the HIGHLANDER GAMES!!!

Let the games begin!

Unfortunately the Highlander games were not good to Augie and he goes home early with a broken arm.
Our final inspection
We stack our luggage neatly for the trip home.
And say our final goodbyes to the great staff at Camp Cherry Valley... until next year!
