Aravaipa Canyon

November 2007

For our November Aravaipa trip, we have the whole canyon to ourselves!

Our group: Richard, Karl, Rod, Dave, Blake, Michael, Dave, Gary, Tyler, James, Kevin, Ian, Greg, Lenny, Mark, Connor, Nico, Augie, JD, Tim, Alex, Michael, Debi, Alex, Patrick
We divide up into four groups as we hike into the canyon and the first group heads up the canyon to find our camp sites.

a short break for snacks and removing jackets and long pants! Augie checks his shoes for rocks.
The Three Musketeers

and the Three Amigos
Augie stops to take rocks out of his shoes every 100 feet -- so he can make room for more rocks
Here's our Scoutmaster leading his group through the canyon - it looks like his pack is getting bigger and heavier the deeper into the canyon he goes.

After camp is set up, the bakeoff begins -- fresh berry pies

Chef Tim grills steaks while the pasta with pesto simmers.. this is a feast for kings!
I'm hungry, is dinner almost ready?

Dessert is ready! Okay, be honest, whose pie looks better? Doesn't Richard's pie look a little burnt?*

After dinner the Scouts retire a flag around the campfire

And then they retire the leftover steak and pasta from the adults' dinner
In the morning a coatimundi comes to visit our camp and help himself to Rod's power bars

The first group heads back out the canyon
Rod practicing his favorite pastime
The next group is ready to go!
Group 3 takes off!
And group four!
Peace - give it a chance!

Hey, it looks like we caught with group 2?

Tyler gets some first aid
Mr. Frantz doesn't think this sign should be here, and I bet it won't be after he walks by..
Augie is thinking if he should stand here on this rock or go see if someone needs help with their pack..decisions, decisions..
Mr. Kotsovolos looks very rested, like he's been waiting here for us for hours.. and I think he has!
Come on, Lenny, you're almost done! This is the only not flat part of this whole hike!

I think this is the last of our group - let's go eat some Mexican food!

Thank you to our trip leaders, Richard and Debi!

*I was just kidding about that pie, Richard, yours was the best one!
